Suitors for Resolution have until 5 pm on Thursday to table offers. Unlisted Pearl has already made two offers for Resolution, both rejected, while Standard Life has said it is considering a cash-and-shares offer. Meanwhile, Resolution and Friends Provident have promising to return around £2b of capital over the next two years to shareholders. Resolution has agreed an £8.7bn merger to create the fifth largest UK-listed insurer, but the deal has been put in doubt following the interest from Pearl ang others.
