Barings is offering UK investors access to its Russian fund, after receiving FSA approval. The Baring Russia fund is US$35m, and has returned 37.2% over 1 year to 30 March 2007. Ghadir Abu Leil-Cooper, manager of the Baring Russia fund, said strong global demand has helped Russia’s economic growth to average around 6% after inflation over recent years. “In the current environment we believe that Russia, with its appreciating currency, rising foreign exchange reserves and strong balance sheet, represents an attractive investment opportunity.”
