Silicon Valley and Abenomics: Close AM's themes for 2014

Close Brothers Asset Management investment director Riitta Hujanen is looking to US tech companies to continue the strong run they experienced throughout 2013.

Hujanen, who manages the Close Discretionary Conservative, Balanced and Growth funds, recently visited the US where she met with Californian technology companies, a key investment theme for the portfolios. She said technology companies were one of the standout areas of outperformance in her funds last year, despite the weakness of the dollar relative to sterling. Hujanen said: “We invest in Google and in a cybersecurity company called Check Point Software. California is a hub of innovation, as there are big universities in the area which feed the technology companies with engineers...
