Barings rebuilds after big-name exits

Barings global head of distribution Angus Woolhouse tells Laura Dew how the firm handled the fallout from the exit of three multi-asset managers, and outlines its plans for the rest of the year.

The funds industry was surprised last summer by the sudden departure of Barings' long-standing multi-asset leaders Percival Stanion, Andrew Cole, and Shaniel Ramjee. Director of multi-asset Cole had been at the firm for 28 years, while head of multi-asset Stanion joined in 2001 and investment manager Ramjee joined in 2007. Within months it was announced the trio would be joining Pictet to front a separate multi-asset push. Back at Barings, investors in Cole's retail multi-asset fund rushed for the door.
