Tony Hobman could soon be grateful of the 35-mile gap between London and Brighton. While the issue of pensions climbs steadily higher up the Westminster agenda, the current head of the occupational pension regulator (Opra) is on the verge of inheriting a host of new, and still ill-defined powers, as the new Pensions Regulator. Hobman's current organisation, established in the wake of the Maxwell Mirror pensions fund scandal of the early 1990s, is to be given greater powers to demand information both in terms of paper sources and the number of people required to whistleblow on rule breache...
