UK families are welcoming the Child Trust Fund (CTF) with open arms. At the busiest time of their lives, the majority of parents are actively opening their children's CTF accounts, with many committing to top-ups on a regular basis. In a study by the London School of Economics, funded by the Economic and Social Research Council, parents were given the hypothetical choice between an increase in child benefit equivalent to the cost of the CTF, or keeping the CTF. Parents opted resoundingly for the latter - which means the CTF could soon be as embedded in the national psyche as child benefit. ...
