As Eastern European markets open, more investors are turning their view to opportunities in the former communist bloc. On 17 October, EU foreign ministers formally endorsed a recommendation that Romania and Bulgaria join the EU on 1 January 2007, a year early. The recommendation is the EU's second wave of enlargement into ex-communist Eastern Europe, securing the two countries’ stability and boosting their growing economies.
