Brexit uncertainty continued to supress UK investors in 2019, leading to a quiet year for investment trust initial public offerings. Just seven investment companies came to market in the year to 16 December, raising just over £1bn. In fact, a number of other trusts attempted to float but could not get away due to lack of interest in new mandates. However, trade body the Association of Investment Companies expects 2019 to be a record year for secondary issuance, showing appetite for the closed-end structure remains high.
