At best I’m a fair-weather football fan, but there were many like me that were carried along in the initial excitement of the Euro 2020 matches.

By virtue of spending much of my childhood in North London and adulthood a stone's throw away from Highbury, I am sort of an Arsenal fan, and not averse to posing for a photo with the legendary Gunnersauraus. However, the joy of packed terraces and lively supporters that football brings for many is a contrast to my formative memories, tinted with feelings of dread.
