This week I am going to say something I did not think I ever would - investing in wealth service advisers might be a good idea.
Note I did not refer to fund managers, who will forever toil away at the coal face of commodification, manfully coping with errant fund managers jumping ship to increase their own value. No, I am optimistic about good old fashioned advisers who can take a wealthier client in hand and say: “Now Mr Stevenson, using our pool of research ideas, we have an investment plan that might just provide you with more than baked beans in your retirement.” My positive assessment of the opportunity for wealth advisers is, in part, based on words of wisdom from American economist Gary Shilling.
