I followed my own advice. For the first time in nearly 20 years, I gave the Budget a miss. I avoided the ritual of sitting glued to the TV, radio and web before waiting for the Treasury and Inland Revenue papers to come over. I looked at the billboards for the London Evening Standard: 'Budget - Teachers and Nurses win,' and thought, that's enough for me. Forget the teachers, give it to the nurses, they deserve it.
