Although the industry has seen plenty of activity this year, most of this came out of regulatory changes rather than the mixed performance of markets during the past 12 months. Over the course of 2004, the FSA issued some 18 different consultation papers, two discussion papers, plus enacted around 22 policy changes including bringing mortgages and insurance in under its banner. Two major events to affect Investment Week readers were the revision of rules governing collective investment schemes (Coll rules) and depolarisation.
