When John Browne, former BP chief executive officer, resigned from Goldman's board of directors recently, it was hard to escape the conclusion that Goldman had inadvertently contributed to a nasty episode of homophobia. Goldman was in a difficult position when Browne stepped down as BP chief following revelations he had lied in court documents over his private life.
