Although the Indian and Chinese markets are often mentioned in tandem, the two are actually polar opposites according to fund managers. Far East manager Henry Chan of Barings believes India is almost the opposite of China, with the latter the more mature market and India at the very early stages of growth. Ian Hargreaves, Asian manager at Invesco Perpetual also warns there are some important differences between the two regions that investors need to understand, such as the fiscal deficit run up by the Indian government.
