The chairman thinks he deserves an award for steering SmallBluePlanet through the split caps debacle

"That Gyles Brandreth is a funny guy," I said to the chairman of the insignificantly-sized investment company SmallBluePlanet as we steeled ourselves to leave the Investment Week Investment Trust of the Year Awards for a couple of late-night Lost Barings in The One Day They'll Comment. Seasoned awards-goers we may be but the chairman and I never quite remember to bail out of The Savoy a little early in order to avoid the now-traditional closing ceremony where reluctant guests are rounded up by Investment Week staff and forced to go dancing till the small hours in The Dover Street Wine Bar....
