Legal & General appoints former Treasury secretary as chairman

Follows John Stewart's retirement

Legal & General has appointed former second permanent secretary of HM Treasury Sir John Kingman as group chairman.

Kingman will succeed Rudy Markham, who has served as interim chairman since John Stewart's retirement from the board on 1 June. The appointment has been approved by financial regulators, the Prudential Regulation Authority and the Financial Conduct Authority, but is subject to the advice of the Cabinet Office Advisory Committee on business appointments. Kingman previously worked as second permanent secretary of HM Treasury, where he served as managing director of the Public Services and Growth Directorate.
