Leaving the European Union will cost British households £4,300 a year, according to Chancellor George Osborne, in his latest campaign to convince the public to vote against a Brexit.

In a speech to be given today, the Chancellor is set to tell the British public they will be "permanently poorer" if they vote to leave the EU, saying "Britain is safer, stronger and better off inside a reformed EU". The latest warning comes as the Treasury publishes a long-term assessment of the potential economic costs of leaving the union. This report shows all the alternatives modelled will costs British households significant amounts of money, with these costs increasing the more trade barriers are created between Britain and the EU.
