Alliance Trust flags board's lack of gender diversity after Garrett-Cox exit

Pledge comes in 2015 results

Alliance Trust chairman Robert Smith, Lord Smith of Kelvin, has pledged to address the lack of gender diversity on the company's board following the recent departures of ATI chief executive Katherine Garrett-Cox and chairman Karin Forseke.

Garrett-Cox (pictured) announced her departure after nine years at the company in February, and will leave on 11 March as part of a comprehensive overhaul of the trust following an attack by activist investor Elliott Advisors. Her departure followed former chairman Forseke's decision to step down in November, as part of a new strategy for the trust. In the company's year-end results for 2015, Smith, who replaced Forseke in January, said: "I am acutely aware of the lack of gender diversity on the current board as a result of the recent changes.
