J O Hambro Capital Management (JOHCM) has recruited a former Fidelity investment team ahead of the launch of a small and mid-cap US equity fund this quarter.

Portfolio managers Thorsten Becker, Arun Daniel, Vincent Rivers and trader Eric Yi previously worked for Pyramis Global Advisors, a Fidelity Investments company. The team will be based in Boston, Massachusetts, and will adopt a strategy which reflects research-driven best ideas.

UK investors will be able to access the new strategy through an OEIC fund, while US-based investors will be offered a mutual fund and commingled fund. Capacity for the strategy has beeen set at $5bn. The team also plans to launch a global small- and mid-cap equity strategy.

JOHCM chief executive Gavin Rochussen (pictured) said: "The appointment of these experienced and proven US equities investors enhances our presence in the United States, a market where we are making considerable inroads, and enables us to widen our investment fund range."

The firm was forced to close its strongly performing US equities strategy in 2011, after failing to attract large flows.

Rochussen announced an ambition to launch another US equity strategy last year, but spent months talking to different teams before deciding on the chosen managers.

JOHCM also last year established a US-based distribution team, and has one US team, based in New York, running the firm's US-domiciled JOHCM International Small Cap Equity fund, which launched in October.
