The number of billionaires living in the UK has passed 100 for the first time, the 2014 Sunday Times Rich List has revealed.

London has the most billionaires of any city in the world – it is home to 72, compared to 48 in runner-up city Moscow.

Indian-born brothers Sri and Gopie Hinduja topped the billionaire count with a hefty £11.9bn fortune.

Hargreaves Lansdown founders Peter Hargreaves and Stephen Lansdown have also added to their wealth this year.

Hargreaves, who is estimated to have a fortune of £2.4bn, climbed eight places to number 40 on the rich list.

Newcomers to the billionaires’ club include Foxtons estate agent founder Jon Hunt, who is worth £1.07bn, and the Perrodo family, whose Perenco oil and gas operation has helped boost their fortune to an estimated £6.14bn.

The Duke of Westminster, owner of property development firm Grosvenor Group, saw his fortunes rise £700m to £8.5bn.

The combined wealth of Britains’ billionaires is estimated to have jumped from £245bn in 2013 to £301bn in 2014.
