Sir Mervyn King has said the public has "every right to be angry" with banks, but urged people to move on from demonising bankers, in one of his final interviews before stepping down.
The outgoing Bank of England governor, appearing on BBC Radio 4's Desert Island Discs, said it is understandable people are angry at the state the country's banks had got themselves into. But the governor also cautioned blaming individuals is a distraction. "In many ways, when the crisis hit in 2007-2008 I was surprised people were not angry sooner," King said.
