M&G brings in deputy manager on Nash's Small Cap fund

M&G has hired Matthew Cable as deputy manager on its £370m Smaller Companies fund following a tough spell which has seen it drop down the rankings.

The fund, run by lead manager Louise Nash alongside Garfield Kiff, has marginally lagged peers in recent years, returning 18.4% in the last year compared to the IMA UK Smaller Companies sector average of 20.1%. Over three years it is also behind the benchmark, but it remains ahead of peers on a five-year view. Cable, who joined M&G in 2007 and has been the dedicated analyst for the fund since April 2011, has been promoted into his new role. The fund itself focuses on buying what it hopes will be high growth companies to hold for the long term.
