Goldman's O'Neill in race to become next Bank governor

Goldman Sachs' Jim O'Neill has emerged as a surprise candidate to become the next governor of the Bank of England.

Treasury officials are drafting up a shortlist of candidates and will begin making formal approaches this autumn, with O'Neill one of the main contenders fro the role, the Sunday Times reports. O'Neill, a colunmist for Investment Week, is one of the world's most influential economists, and was responsible for coining the BRIC acronym in 2001. In his current role as chairman of Goldman Sachs Asset Management, O'Neill overseas $714.6bn in assets under management.
