BP's disastrous Gulf of Mexico oil well was permanently sealed yesterday, finishing what was the worst offshore oil spill in US history.
The disaster, which took the lives of 11 oil workers, caused widespread anger in the US, with most of the fury focused on London-based BP. US President Barack Obama, who has seen himself and his administration also come under pressure, was one of the most outspoken critics of BP. Many argue his continued references to 'British Petroleum' and use of terms such as ‘reckless' only inflamed an already perilous situation.
