The resource sector is pushing the FTSE 100 down this morning, with the index 5.14 points (0.12%) down to 4,323.43 by 8:45am. United Utilities, which is trading off-dividend today, is leading the fall, shedding 4.55% to £5.14 so far. Severn Trent is down 4.31% at £11.10 while Eurasian Natural Resources and Antofagasta are down 3.94% and 3.73% at £6.45 and £6.06 respectively. Supermarket giant J Sainsbury is also among the earlier fallers this morning after announcing it is to raise £445m via a placing and offering of convertible bonds.
