Global bond yields have risen significantly in the past year from the extreme lows they reached on 13 June 2003, suggesting investors see them as a far from risk-free asset. Ten-year UK gilts have seen their redemption yield rise from 3.85% to 5.25% in the middle of June, while in the US, 10-year Treasury yields over the same period rose from 3.11% to a high of 4.87%.
