Government should back compulsory pensions

The Australian system of compulsory contributions is far superior to the UK system of direct contributions because it gives the consumer economies of scale and protects them from monopoly

The comparisons between the Green Paper, the Revenue's tax simplification proposals and the curate's egg are only apt if one understands the real meaning of the ecclesiastical joke. The curate, being deferential to the bishop, is too polite to say his egg is inedible but too honest to tell an out-and-out lie. So he compromises and says it's good in parts, when in fact it is completely rotten. There is much of interest in the Revenue's proposals to simplify tax and this will appeal to the administrators and the professional advisers in the industry.
