The Beijing Olympics will do little to boost China’s economy, even in the short term, said JPMorgan. The group said the obvious benefits are developments in the construction-related sectors and improvements to transport and infrastructure from building sports facilities and infrastructure, followed by local retailers and tourist trade expected from the seven million ticketholders. JPMorgan said while visitors to the area would be a temporary feature, often with host cities the event has increased the attraction for tourism even after the Games have concluded.
