The Dow Jones has started strongly in New York this morning, adding 163.04 points, or 1.97%, to 8,440.36 in early trading. With the markets suspended for the Memorial Day public holiday yesterday, the Dow opened with positive performances from banks JPMorgan Chase and Citigroup, up 0.72% to $35.13 and 0.04% to $3.71 respectively. General Motors nosedived almost 20% to $1.15, as it nears the 1 June deadline to offer the US Government a plan to repay its £27bn debts or face bankruptcy. The FTSE 100 climbed to a day high of 4,405 points by around 3.15pm today, 1.5% up on opening at 4,353. ...
