The FTSE opened higher today after yesterday's stock market panic wiped £93bn from the value of London's leading shares. The blue-chip index opened at 4661.87 up 1.49% on the previous session’s close of 4589.19. Traders said the rise was buoyed by a late rally on Wall Street and was also helped by an bigger than expected cut in Australian interest rates. The index was led by mining stocks such as Fresnillo, Xstrata and Anglo American. HBOS is also going well, while Tesco fell.
