European manager says West is facing a version of long balance sheet recession.

Chris Rice’s Cazenove European fund is one of the stand-out performers in the European ex UK sector over the long term, beating peers over the last five years. His £837m fund delivered 9% to investors over the last five years, compared to a sector average return of 2.7%, according to Morningstar. In the last few years the manager – who invests in stocks based on the position of the business cycle in Europe – has performed in line with peers, with a fall of 11.5% in the last year following the heavy sell-off across markets, compared to a sector average decline of 11.4%.
