An upturn in the US housing market will be essential to the country's wider economic recovery. Paul Tryon, co-manager of the Marlborough North American trust, explains why and how investors can profit.

When Stuart Miller – CEO of the third largest homebuilder in the US, Lennar – recently announced a sharp upturn in business it was welcome news for his shareholders. It was also welcome news on a broader level. An improvement in the housing market will play a central role in the US economic recovery and Miller said he saw a “very real” positive trend beginning to take shape.
