IMA chairman Lindsay Tomlinson has warned intermediaries they need to improve their knowledge of hedge funds. The 6,000 listed vehicles worldwide now have an estimated $1 trillion under management. "Hedge funds matter, even if you are not interested in investing in these products, as they are having a big impact on our industry," he said. One way they affect the industry is through causing volatility in stock markets through the shorting of stocks. Tomlinson cited the 30% fall in easyJet's shares, following its recent profit warning, as not being the result of long-only managers alone....
