Near-term share prices for property investment companies could be boosted following the introduction of UK Reits, according to Barry MacLennan, investment director at Standard Life. MacLennan expects the introduction to spark international interest, predominantly from US investors who were previously unable to invest in UK property. While the establishment of Reits was long overdue, the legislation was appropriate and is particularly welcome for its advantageous tax rules, he noted.
