At the end of May, all of the countries representing the MSCI Emerging Markets index have declined, with the greatest falls in Argentina, Brazil, Hungary, India, Indonesia, Russia, South Africa and Turkey, according to Credit Suisse Asset Management. By sector, materials and energy were hardest hit, but selling has been broad-based across even some of the traditionally more defensive sectors such as consumer staples and utilities.
