In the spirit of World Cup fever and the ongoing debate over which team will be crowned the winner, Anthony Willis, investment manager in the multi-manager team at BMO Global Asset Management, takes a different look at the FIFA World Cup.

Inspired by the daily updating of FIFA World Cup wallcharts and constant discussions on who is the best team, Anthony Willis, investment manager in the multi-manager team at BMO Global Asset Management, uses  growth forecasts from the International Monetary Fund's World Economic Outlook (IMF), published in April 2018. The IMF predicts economic growth for 195 economies and here Willis analyses the forecasts for those countries who qualified for the 2018 World Cup, but are the GDP growth prospects for the main contenders in the tournament as auspicious as their form on the pitch?
