Sunnier outlook for thriving Indonesia

Following a recent trip to Indonesia, Rob Brewis, investment manager at Aubrey Capital Management, shares his views on the bright spots for the country.

From the depths of the most recent storm in mid-2015 the Indonesian economy has now reverted to an even keel. Despite the obvious advantages of a youthful population of over 250m who are getting ever less poor, external global capital flows remain one of the most important determinants of how the country fares. Last year's collapsing currency hit the confidence of both businesses and consumers and yet both have generally seen a decent recovery this year as external flows return.
