Private equity has seen an upswing since the 2008 crisis but many investors continue to associate the asset class with higher levels of risk. However, historic data shows that since March 2009, after the worst of the financial crisis, private equity has performed strongly, with private equity investment trusts having returned 284% against 112% for the FTSE All-Share.
