Thomas confident in portfolio despite downturn

Jupiter Ecology manager believes his thematic stockpicking approach will come through current volatility and maintain long-term outperformance

Jupiter Ecology manager Charlie Thomas is standing by his portfolio despite a performance downturn during sub-prime. Thomas, who took over the fund in September 2004, believes his bottom-up selections will weather the volatility and come up trumps in the medium term. "We do have periods of volatility and are having one at the moment," he said. In the meantime, he has adopted a cash position of over 20% to protect against downside risk.
