While criticism over Clive Beagles's performance fee at JO Hambro may mean investors stick with his successor at Newton Higher Income for the time being, his recent launch is still attracting interest for its comparative nimbleness. Over Beagles's tenure on the Newton portfolio from 2 July 2001 to 29 March 2004, the £1.7bn fund was ranked seventh out of 66 funds in the UK Equity Income sector, returning 6.55% against a peer group average of -4.2%, bid to bid.
