BLOG: Are CIVETS the new BRICs?

Another investment theme with a catchy acronym is moving into the limelight, but is there a story behind the moniker?

This week saw the unveiling of not one but two CIVETS funds investing in a new set of emerging markets, namely Colombia, Indonesia, Vietnam, Egypt, Turkey and South Africa. The offerings - from HSBC's global asset management arm and specialist investment house Castlestone Management - are attempting to benefit from the growth of what HSBC calls the "next generation" of emerging markets, with parallels to BRIC funds already being made.
