Of all the jobs in the long/short world, running an emerging markets hedge fund is probably the toughest.

The endless challenges of developing economies and their markets probably lie behind Martin Taylor’s and Nick Barnes’s decision to stop running Nevsky Capital’s $3.3bn product next year. They have been at its helm for 10 and nine years respectively, making 750% since October 2000. Emerging markets shares have made 201%. Developed markets made next to nothing.  If decoupling has not happened during that period for EM and developed world economies, Nevsky’s returns suggest it definately has for their markets.  Overall their peers made 40% last year, the second part of a rollercoaster...
