At Christmas, we should not need reminding that the best of intentions can sometimes turn out very differently to what we expect, writes Ian Sayers is chief executive of the Association of Investment Companies (AIC).

Sending cards, buying presents, visiting family and friends for food or drink - all seem harmless enough at the beginning of December. But unless you are meticulous in your planning, I expect many of us reach the end of the holidays wondering how everything suddenly got out of control.
