Alliance Trust's head of equities Ilario di Bon has left the group to pursue other opportunities.

The firm has appointed Peter Michaelis to replace di Bon. He will lead an equity investment team under the direction of the trust's chief executive and chief investment officer, Katherine Garrett-Cox (pictured).

Former Aviva Investors global equities head Simon Clements will now be responsible for the management of the trust's equity portfolio which di Bon had responsibility for.

Ex-Fidelity Worldwide Investment manager Di Bon joined Alliance Trust in 2011, after quadrupling the size of the Fidelity Global Opportunities fund in less than two years.

Garrett-Cox said: "We wish Ilario well for the future. These changes will enable us to capitalise on the long track record and experience of the whole team. They will also allow us to promote an integrated and responsible investment strategy which we believe is a necessity, and no longer a choice, in today’s world.

"Our thematic investment approach remains unchanged and we are committed to delivering capital growth and a consistently rising dividend from our diversified portfolio of global equities and fixed income investments.”
