Octopus to launch European Absolute Return fund

Octopus Investments has hired former New Star and Fidelity manager Thierry Serero as it prepares to launch a European Absolute Return fund.

The firm says the fund, which is planned to launch in Spring, will complement its existing CF UK Equity Absolute Return and the IM Octopus Alternative Strategies vehicles. Serero has been working with chief investment officer Lothar Mentel on the forthcoming fund since joining Octopus in December. Serero will take long and short positions in European shares, equity-related securities and derivatives. Before joining Octopus, he managed New Star's European Opportunities hedge fund.
