Robert Shelton, manager of the £1.05bn Newton Income Fund, is seriously ill in hospital after being involved in a car accident. Shelton, the only fund manager to have maintained a Standard & Poor's AAA rating on a fund for 11 consecutive years, is understood to be in a serious but stable condition after receiving spinal injuries in the accident. In the meantime, Newton Income and the AAA-rated Newton Managed Fund, run by Shelton since 1991, are being managed by his Leeds-based colleague, John Wood.
