GAM is considering launching a fund of funds investing in distressed-related hedge portfolios, combining the characteristics of a hedge fund and a private equity vehicle. Timings have not yet been finalised, but Investment Week understands chief investment director for GAM Multi-Manager David Smith will take a lead role running the vehicle. The fund is being planned as a long-term play due to illiquidity in the distressed debt space.
