In a capricious and increasingly complex marketplace, investing requires expert, full-time analysis. So why not take the "long simplicity, short complexity" approach?

It has been hard to escape the hype surrounding absolute return funds and, in particular, BlackRock UK Absolute Alpha, over the past year. For a number of consecutive months, the sector (as now defined by the IMA) has been the largest taker of net new assets and BlackRock's fund has grown to more than £1.5bn. Good luck to them, but does it justify the hype?
