It seems the tide of foreign investor sentiment towards Japan may be turning. As recently as April, foreign investors were more underweight in Japan (25%) than they had been since May 2003, a point at which history shows marked a turnaround in sentiment, the Nikkei subsequently rallying some 60% in 12 months. Now, only two months on, the most recent Merrill Lynch Global Fund Survey indicates that global investment funds are only 1% underweight Japan.
