Shares in P&O rose after these it reported better-than-expected year profits. The results are the first for the new P&O since it spun off its cruise division last year. Pretax profits before exceptional items on continuing operations rose 12% to £269.1m. Strong results came from its refrigerated transportation and logistics operation and a 40% increase in profits to £102.5m from the ports operations. P&O said that 2001 had started well and it expects similar levels of organic growth throughout the year.
